Last week, the REC released data which found that in the fourth quarter of 2022, employers were continuing to utilise temporary staff to fill jobs in the face of economic uncertainty and ongoing labour shortages. It also noted a continuing uptick in anticipated demand for temporary agency workers into 2023. REC Chief Executive, Neil Carberry highlighted how, ‘on any given day there are 1.2 million people who are working via a recruitment business on a contract or temporary assignment’, of which there are many working in hospitality.

When business is booming, the need to upscale can be sudden.
