For this week’s blog, we spoke to one of our candidates – Oscar Wolfe, who has been working as a temp through Evolve Hospitality’s Cambridge office. We wanted to find out how he came to work for Evolve, what he thought of the role, and to whom he might recommend a position with Evolve in Cambridge. 

We asked Oscar how he found out about Evolve: “I was looking for a summer job around late May, and came across a job listing for Evolve Cambridge, working mainly at Newmarket Racecourse. I had no previous experience working in hospitality – the closest thing I had was working at the admissions desk at Ely Cathedral – but I decided to find out more, and got in contact with the team.”

As a university student, home in Cambridgeshire for the holidays, Oscar was looking for flexible work. “I was particularly happy with the fact that I could work temporarily over the summer, whilst earning some extra money too. Working at Newmarket Racecourse was particularly exciting as I could chat to customers about their experience, and during one shift I was able to see the horses speed past as I brought drinks out to customers!”

New to hospitality, we wanted to know what it was like for Oscar when taking on the challenge of a new role – “I learned a lot whilst working with Evolve – I had never done waiting or worked behind a bar or as a kitchen porter before, so I learned how to do all of these things. I was also able to learn and develop more personal skills, such as working in a team.”

Now it’s September, Oscar has returned to university to continue his studies. We asked whether he might return – “I would absolutely work for Evolve again. There are great opportunities to meet new people and to continue to develop my own personal skills.”

Finally, we wanted to know who Oscar might recommend the position to, from his experience of carrying out the role: “I think an outgoing, detail oriented person with a high level of initiative would be particularly good at the role.”
